Describe a challenging task or assignment and how you approached it.
Challenge
The most difficult task I have completed was drafting a case summary and comment on Reserve Bank of India v. Jayantilal N. Mistry (2015). It is a technical and complex case dealing with the conflict between Right to Information (RTI) Act and bank secrecy.
The case involved an understanding of how RBI, as a regulator, is subject to public accountability under the RTI Act and how transparency weighed against banking secrecy under Section 8(1)€ of the Act. I did so by:
- Reading both the 2015 Supreme Court judgment and the 2023 recall review petitions,
- Analyzing legal blog commentary and articles,
- Grasping the RBI’s position and the Supreme Court’s reasoning on public interest
- Lastly, wording the summary so that it made the problem clear to other students without sacrificing the nuance of legal reasoning.
It greatly enhanced my skills in deconstructing complicated constitutional and regulatory matters.
PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT
What did you observe about the work culture and client management at the firm?
Although the internship is virtual, the environment was professional, disciplined, but friendly. Interns were made to call for assistance in case of uncertainty. Work was allocated with precision, and deadlines were firm but reasonable. The team facilitated teamwork and coordination.
Were you given constructive feedback during the internship?
Yes, I got good and encouraging feedback on my initial case summaries and trivia posts. The feedback assisted me in making my structure more precise, bringing relevance to the forefront, and being legal accurate in subsequent submissions.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE & SUGGESTIONS
What did you enjoy the most during your internship?
I appreciated the autonomy to select cases, think creatively about presenting legal concerns, and the mix of learning and enjoyment with quizzes and trivia. I felt like I was making an actual contribution to a student-run project while refining my skills.
What improvements would you suggest for the internship program at the firm?
None. The internship program is highly organized, predictable, and valuable in all respects.
