Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Legal Counsel to join our Retail Banking Legal team. This role is ideal for a legal professional specializing in advertising, marketing, and intellectual property laws, with a strong understanding of digital media and regulatory compliance.

Job Purpose

The position focuses on providing end-to-end legal support for marketing and media initiatives, ensuring all advertising efforts comply with legal standards while protecting the bank’s interests in intellectual property and brand partnerships.

Roles and Responsibilities

Compliance and Regulation

  • Ensure all promotional content complies with ASCI guidelines and relevant advertising laws.

  • Conduct legal reviews and approve advertising materials, promotional content, and media campaigns for regulatory compliance.

Legal Advisory Support

  • Offer strategic legal counsel on marketing campaigns, sponsorships, and influencer collaborations.

  • Handle legal matters concerning intellectual property, including trademarks and copyrights.

Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to media partnerships, talent engagement, and influencer collaborations.

  • Manage legal documentation for third-party vendors, digital agencies, and sponsorships.

Dispute Management

  • Resolve legal issues related to advertising claims, consumer complaints, and defamation risks.

  • Represent the organization in regulatory proceedings and manage legal correspondence.

Policy and Governance

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of advertising compliance policies and standard legal procedures.

  • Monitor updates in advertising and consumer protection laws to ensure ongoing compliance.

Key Skills

Legal & Regulatory Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of advertising regulations, IPR laws, and consumer protection frameworks.

  • Awareness of digital marketing regulations and emerging trends in the media law landscape.

Analytical & Research Abilities

  • Strong analytical mindset to interpret complex legal provisions and translate them into actionable insights.

  • Competency in legal research and keeping abreast of industry best practices and legal updates.

Communication Proficiency

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with stakeholders, agencies, and regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to simplify legal jargon into clear, digestible advice.

Negotiation & Interpersonal Skills

  • Skilled in contract negotiation and dispute resolution.

  • Capable of maintaining collaborative relationships with internal teams and regulators.

Detail-Oriented

  • High attention to detail for reviewing marketing materials and identifying legal risks proactively.

Educational & Professional Background

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB)

  • Master’s degree in Law (LLM) preferred

Experience:

  • 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in marketing, media, and IP law, ideally within a regulated industry.
