About the Company and Role
Neal R. Gross & Co. (NRGCO), headquartered in Washington, DC, has been a trusted name in court reporting and transcription services for over 40 years. Serving both government agencies and private sector clients, we provide accurate verbatim transcripts for trials, administrative hearings, investigative interviews, historical proceedings, and meetings. We are currently seeking skilled legal and general transcribers to join our network. This is a remote, work-from-home opportunity where you will receive audio files, notes, and formatting guidelines to produce high-quality transcripts. Timeliness, accuracy, and strong English language proficiency are essential for success in this role.
Your Key Responsibilities
As an NRGCO transcriber, you will receive audio recordings along with notes and format specifications via FTP. Your job will be to transcribe these recordings verbatim while adhering strictly to the required formatting guidelines. Accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and spelling is crucial, and all transcripts must be thoroughly proofread before submission. You will work on a variety of content, from court hearings to investigative interviews, ensuring every word is captured precisely. Meeting deadlines is essential, as our clients rely on timely and reliable transcription services. This role offers flexibility but requires commitment and consistent output.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have an excellent command of the English language, type at least 60 words per minute, and be able to transcribe a minimum of three hours of audio each week. Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and spelling is mandatory. Strong attention to detail, internet research skills, and the ability to meet deadlines are key. You will need a Windows operating system, high-speed internet, and transcription software such as FTR Player, ExpressScribe, and FileZilla. WordPerfect or Microsoft Word proficiency is required, and a USB foot pedal (such as Infinity) is recommended for efficiency. US citizenship is mandatory.
Compensation and Work Structure
NRGCO transcribers work as independent (1099) subcontractors and are paid competitive per-page rates. This pay structure rewards productivity and efficiency while offering the flexibility of remote work. Subcontractors are paid biweekly for all timely submitted invoices. This is a great opportunity for those seeking flexible, project-based work that allows them to manage their own schedules. While you will work independently, you will be an integral part of our established network, delivering the quality and reliability that our clients have trusted for decades. AAERT certification is considered a plus but is not required.
Commitment to Equal Opportunity
At Neal R. Gross & Co., we believe diversity strengthens our workforce. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability, or any other protected classification. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are committed to delivering high-quality transcription work. By joining our team, you will contribute to an organization that values respect, fairness, and excellence in every project we undertake, while enjoying the flexibility and independence of remote contract work.
