About the Organisation

The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu under Act No. 43 of 1997 to promote learning, teaching, and research in law. It was inaugurated by His Excellency Shri K.R. Narayanan, former President of India, on September 20, 1997, and commenced functioning on October 3, 1997. Recognised by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission (Sec. 2f & 12b), the University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (U.K.), and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. As the first sui generis law university in India, it serves as a nodal agency for advancing legal education in Tamil Nadu.

The University offers programmes through its campus and twenty-seven affiliated colleges. The School of Excellence in Law, established in 2002, offers three-year and five-year integrated law courses. The Postgraduate and Research Centres provide LL.M., Ph.D., and LL.D. programmes in diverse legal specialisations.

About the Conference

The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, School of Excellence in Law, presents a one-day International conference organized by B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme and Department of Human Rights on “Human Rights 2.0: Contemporary Challenges in Digital Regime”, scheduled on January 30, 2026, in Hybrid Mode.

The conference brings together scholars, practitioners, policymakers and students to exchange rigorous, solution-oriented scholarship and to chart socio-legal responses that protect rights, dignity and democratic values in a technology-driven age. This convening is intended as a collaborative space where empirical insight and doctrinal analysis inform practicable recommendations for law, policy and institutional reform.

About Call for papers

The conference invites contributions that examine how law and institutions must adapt to preserve human dignity in contexts such as algorithmic decision-making, platform governance, surveillance, digital labour, and synthetic media.

Theme

The primary theme is Human Rights 2.0: Contemporary Challenges in Digital Regime.

Thematic Areas (Sub-Themes)

The suggested thematic areas include:

  1. Transparency and accountability Risk in AI, Robotics, and Algorithmic governance.
  2. Protecting Identity: Addressing Misrepresentation, Facial Recognition, Neurotechnology, and Biotechnological Risks.
  3. Digital Trade and Data Sovereignty; Human Rights in the Global Digital Economy.
  4. Artificial intelligence: balancing innovation with accountability.
  5. Autonomous Warfare and Its relevance to International Humanitarian Law.
  6. Balancing right to freedom, privacy, and memory in the digital era amidst growing state access to personal data.
  7. Deepfakes, virtual realities, and digital abuse: redefining consent and protection.
  8. Authoritarian Digital Control: Internet shutdowns as tools of repression and Human rights suppression.
  9. Updating human rights law to combat digital forced labour in the age of Generative AI.
  10. Global Threats and Human Rights – Addressing Terrorism, Cyber Warfare, and Espionage in a Connected World.

Note: The above sub-themes are not exhaustive; authors may choose any other theme, provided it does not derogate from the primary conference theme.

Eligibility

Participation is open to:

  • Students of law, Academicians, Researchers, PhD Scholars
  • Lawyers, NGOs, and professionals working in the human rights field.

Submission Categories

Abstract Submission

  • The abstract should be approximately 300 words, including five keywords.
  • Each abstract must be accompanied by the author’s name, email ID, contact number, name of the institution, designation, and official address.
  • Authors must mention the specific sub-theme to which their paper belongs.
  • File Naming Convention: First Author Name_abstract (e.g., JohnDoe_abstract.docx). For co-authored papers, include only the first author’s name in the file name.

Full Paper Submission

  • The word limit for the full paper is 4000-6000 words (excluding footnotes).
  • A maximum of three authors are permitted per paper.
  • All accepted abstracts must complete registration and follow the organizers’ submission guidelines.
  • Selected papers will be published in a reputed peer-reviewed journal under UGC guidelines, with the payment of an additional publication fee.

  • Size: 12
  • Line Spacing: 1.5
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Margins: 1 inch on all four sides
  • Paper Size: A4
  • File Format: MS Word (.doc/.docx) only
  • Citation format: Bluebook 21st edition
  •  A maximum of three authors are permitted per paper.
  • The word limit for the full paper, including the abstract, is 4000–6000 words (excluding footnotes).

Submission Guidelines 

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:

  • The abstract should be approximately 300 words, including five key words.
  • Each abstract must be accompanied by the author’s name, email ID, contact number, name of the institution, designation, and official address.
  • The authors will have to mention the sub-theme to which their paper belongs.

Registration Fees 

FOR PRESENTERS:

  • Students, research and PhD scholars- INR 500 each.
  •  Indian Academicians, Professionals – INR 1000 each
  • Foreigners – $50 US Dollars

FOR PARTICIPANTS (NON-PRESENTERS):

  • Indian students, research and PhD scholars, Academicians, Professionals, and Others – INR 350 each
  • Foreigner – $25 US Dollars

Registration Process

  • A maximum of three authors are permitted per paper.
  • Each author must pay the registration fee separately.
  • No refund will be provided if any author fails to attend the conference on the scheduled date.
  • It is mandatory to complete the payment through the provided link and attach the screenshot of the payment confirmation without fail.
