About Techtonic 2026
The NLIU-CLT Technology and Law Fair: ‘Techtonic’ is a major flagship event organized by the NLIU Cell for Law and Technology annually. It provides a chance for aspiring lawyers to explore their talent as policy professionals as well as gain insight into various technology law related issues.
The two major highlights of this event are the NLIU-CLT Policy Case Competition in Collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates which provides the students with an opportunity to question, analyse and improve upon the law on a pressing policy matter and the Round Table Conference which includes a panel discussion with renowned industry experts.
‘Techtonic 2026’ which is the fifth edition of CLT’s flagship event, is scheduled to be held from 16th – 18th January, 2026. The winners shall be awarded with cash prizes and internship opportunities.
About the NLIU-NDA Policy Case Competition
The Policy Case Competition is a flagship event of NLIU-CLT and the first of its kind in India, designed to inspire students to think critically, analytically, and creatively while formulating policy solutions to real-life concerns. Teams are required to draft policy proposals that address complex questions, and their submissions are reviewed by leading professionals. Shortlisted teams then present their proposals before an expert panel, with winners determined based on both written and oral rounds.
Since its inception in 2021, the competition has grown into a premier platform for policy innovation. Previous editions have addressed themes such as Cyber Bullying (2021), Internet Platform Regulation (2023, in collaboration with Ikigai Law), and Artificial Intelligence & Intellectual Property (2024), drawing participation from law students across the country.
The first stage begins with the release of a detailed policy case that defines the contours of the challenge. Teams are required to submit written policy proposals in a prescribed format, which then undergo a dual-review process, a technical review by NLIU-CLT and a content review by professionals from several firms, academic institutions, and other industry experts.
In the advanced stage, all registered teams are invited to the NLIU campus for the preliminary rounds. Teams qualifying these rounds then progress further to present their proposals before a panel of judges. At this stage, participants may receive feedback and are given the opportunity to revise their submissions. The final round sees the shortlisted teams presenting their revised policies before an expert jury, with the winners being determined on the combined merit of their written proposals and oral presentations.
Theme
Theme: “Governing emotional and medical risks of AI”
Governing the emotional and medical risks of AI means setting safeguards so that these systems support, rather than harm, people’s mental and physical health. It requires clear standards for safety, bias, and accuracy in medical and therapeutic tools, along with transparency about how they work and what their limits are. Strong oversight, human-in-the-loop review, and ethical design principles are needed to prevent emotional dependency, misuse, and harmful errors while still allowing responsible innovation.
Perks and Benefits
- Participants shall be given an opportunity to be a part of the Round Table Conferences this year, conducted as part of Techtonic 2026. The Round Table Conference shall include panelists who are industry experts from across the nation and abroad.
- Participants will also be able to attend CLT Talk Shows on themes such as Media and Entertainment Law and Regulating the Online Gaming Industry, designed to simplify complex tech-law issues through conversations with industry experts.
- Shortlisted teams in the Policy Case Competition will receive mentorship from experts after the preliminary rounds, enabling them to refine their proposals before the final presentations.
- The winning and high-performing teams will receive cash prizes, trophies, and internship opportunities with esteemed firms and research-policy think tanks, with specific awards for first, second and third position, as well as for Best Speaker and Best Written Submission.
- Participants will also benefit from enhanced visibility and networking through interactions with judges, industry professionals, and academics across Techtonic’s various events and sessions.
- All teams shall have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with like-minded peers and colleagues.
- A Certificate of Participation shall be awarded to all participants.
