About the Job
Applications are invited for the position of Legal Counsel – India. The role involves providing end-to-end legal support to business operations in India, ensuring compliance with local laws, internal policies, and global guidelines.
The Legal Counsel will work closely with internal stakeholders, manage external counsel, and support business initiatives across multiple domains including contracts, governance, compliance, employment, marketing, manufacturing, and dispute resolution.
Responsibilities
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations
- Implement Group directives, referentials, and compliance programs
- Implement Michelin Legal initiatives (e.g., EBF, CLM, CCR)
- Draft, review, and update internal governance documents such as policies, SOPs, templates, playbooks, and standard terms
- Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments
Contract Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of business contracts
- End-to-end legal validation of Purchase Contracts
- Manage other commercial agreements
- Ensure all agreements comply with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and global guidelines
- Provide clear legal guidance on contractual rights, obligations, and risk mitigation
Advisory Support
- Provide timely and responsive legal advice to internal partners
- Deliver legal training to business teams where necessary
- Conduct comprehensive legal research across diverse subject areas
- Provide legal opinions on matters relating to employment, sales & marketing, and manufacturing
- Advise business teams on consumer complaints at the pre-litigation stage
Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management
- Provide legal support for disputes and manage litigation across India
- Draft and vet legal notices and replies
- Oversee court cases, arbitrations, and related proceedings
- Coordinate effectively with external counsels and consultants
- Provide strategic advice to minimize legal exposure
Legal Operations
- Manage external legal counsel and consultants
- Assist in setting and managing budgets for external legal resources
- Manage legal projects
- Support integration projects for new acquisitions, where required
