Position Overview:

The Paralegal will support the litigation motor team in managing and progressing motor litigation claims. The role involves case administration, drafting legal documents, liaising with courts and stakeholders, and assisting file handlers with litigation processes. It is designed as an entry-level role for individuals seeking to build a career in legal practice.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Updating the case management system with file allocations, diary entries, court dates, applications, directions, and orders.
  • Drafting routine court documents such as:
    • Acknowledgement of Service (AOS)
    • Notice of Change
    • Court Orders
    • Witness Summons
    • Precedent-based applications
  • Liaising with courts, counsel, opponents, experts, witnesses, insured parties, and brokers to progress cases.
  • Requesting updates and extensions for compliance with court directions.
  • Handling communications with GP, hospital, OH and personnel mandates.
  • Booking counsel for hearings, conferences, and expert appointments.
  • Following up on outstanding instructions, documents, and responses within required timelines.
  • Processing payment requests and ensuring payments are dispatched on time.
  • Managing diary updates and CRU records.
  • Ensuring compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations.
  • Supporting file handlers with administrative tasks such as:
    • Minor investigations on liability and quantum
    • Preparing write-off forms
    • Requesting final bills and handling billing queries
    • Completing MI records
    • File closure and transfer activities
    • Initial recovery steps for client outlays

Eligibility:

  • Experience working in a legal environment (desirable).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate or obtain information from third parties.
  • Experience in:
    • Following structured work programmes
    • Handling enquiries from clients or the public
    • Gathering and recording information
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload independently.
  • IT proficiency, particularly in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience using a claims or case management system.
  • Familiarity with alphanumeric filing systems.
  • GCSE Grade A–C in Maths and English (or equivalent).
