About the Competition
The 1st Justice Prem Shankar Gupta National Moot Court Competition is organized to honour the judicial contributions of Justice Prem Shankar Gupta. The competition commemorates his legacy of fairness, intellectual discipline, and dedication to the rule of law.
Through this event, the organizers aim to encourage law students to develop strong advocacy skills, ethical legal practice, and a deep respect for constitutional values.
Eligibility and Team Composition
- The competition is open to students enrolled in 3-year or 5-year LL.B. undergraduate programs.
- A team may consist of:
- Two members – both acting as speakers, with one also performing the role of researcher; or
- Three members – two speakers and one researcher.
- A maximum of two teams from each law school or institution may participate.
- Teams are not allowed to bring extra members or coaches.
- The researcher cannot argue as a speaker during the competition.
Structure of the Competition
The event will take place in multiple rounds:
- Preliminary Rounds
- Quarter-Finals
- Semi-Finals
- Final Round
Key details:
- The draw of lots for the preliminary rounds will be conducted online before the competition begins.
- Each team will receive 20 minutes in the preliminary round, including rebuttal and sur-rebuttal.
- The top eight teams based on total scores will qualify for the quarter-finals, subject to tie-breakers such as win margin and memorial scores.
- Teams qualifying for the quarter-finals must submit four copies of memorials for each side.
Time Allocation
- Quarter-Final Round: 30 minutes per team
- Semi-Final Round: 45 minutes per team
- Final Round: 60 minutes per team
(All timings include rebuttal and sur-rebuttal.)
The team winning the Final Round will be declared the champion of the competition.

Registration Fee
- ₹750 – Registration fee for the preliminary (online) round
- ₹3000 – Fee for teams qualifying for the physical rounds
