About Faculty of Juridical Sciences (FJS)

Established in 2015, the Faculty of Juridical Sciences, Rama University, is duly approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). It offers a full spectrum of legal education programs including LL.B., B.A./B.B.A.-LL.B., LL.M., and Ph.D. in Law.

About the National PIL Drafting Competition

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Drafting Competition is an academic event designed to enhance students’ understanding of Public Interest Litigation and its crucial role in promoting social justice.

The competition encourages participants to identify real public issues and present them through well-structured legal drafts. It aims to develop essential skills in legal research, constitutional interpretation, and persuasive writing, while also fostering awareness of citizens’ rights and the judiciary’s responsibility to address collective grievances.

Overall, it serves as a practical platform for aspiring lawyers to apply their legal knowledge to real-world social concerns.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The competition is open to students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in Law (3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. program) or LLM from any recognized university or college in India.
  2. There is no restriction on the number of entries from any institution.
  3. The competition is intended for law students only; students from non-law disciplines are not eligible to participate.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Each team must submit one PIL draft.
  2. Supporting documents (reports, commentaries, news clippings, etc.) may be compiled as a compendium and submitted along with the memorial.
  3. Submissions must be made via the Google Form by the prescribed deadline.
  4. No Late submissions will be accepted.
  5. Each team must also submit a Plagiarism Report (Turnitin Report) along with their PIL draft. The report must indicate that plagiarism does not exceed 10%.
  6. If two or more submissions are found to be substantially similar, both teams will be disqualified.
  7. Each team must submit a Plagiarism Report (Turnitin Report) with the filename format: Team Name_PIL.
  8. Participants are advised to retain a copy of their submission for future reference, as no resubmission will be permitted once the deadline has passed.

Formatting Guidelines

  1. All submissions must be made in:
    • Microsoft Word Document (.doc or .docx)
    • PDF File (.pdf)
      Each participant/team must upload both versions through the official Google Form.
  2. The body of the PIL draft must follow the following formatting standards:
    • Font: Times New Roman
    • Font Size: 12 (for main text)
    • Line Spacing: 1.5
    • Text Alignment: Justified
    • Page Margins: 1 inch on all sides
  3. Headings and Subheadings may be formatted in bold or underlined for clarity. The font size of headings can be adjusted as per the participant’s choice, provided consistency is maintained throughout the document.
  4. Footnotes must be in:
    • Font: Times New Roman
    • Font Size: 10
    • Line Spacing: Single
    • Alignment: Justified
  5. Participants must follow the Indian Law Institute (ILI) Citation Style uniformly throughout their submission.
  6. All pages must be numbered at the bottom center or bottom right corner. No personal details or institutional identification should appear anywhere in the draft.
  1. The file names must be in the following format:
    TeamName_PIL.docx and TeamName_PIL.pdf
  2. Non-compliance with the above formatting rules may lead to deduction of marks during evaluation.

Content of the PIL Memorial

The PIL is to be filed before the Supreme Court of India and must include the following components:

  1. Cover Page
    (a) Your Name (top right corner)
    (b) Title of the Case
  2. Table of Contents
  3. Table of Abbreviations
  4. Index of Authorities
  5. Statement of Jurisdiction
  6. Facts of the Case
  7. Issues Raised
  8. Summary of Arguments/Pleadings
  9. Arguments Advanced/Pleadings
  10. Prayer
  11. Table of Annexures

Note: There is no restriction on the number of pages.

Awards

Certificates of Merit will be awarded to the participants securing the:

  • 1st Position
  • 2nd Position
  • 3rd Position

Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all registered participants who successfully submit their entries within the stipulated deadline.
