About St. Joseph’s College of Law

St. Joseph’s College of Law (SJCL), located in Bengaluru, is the first Jesuit Law College in South Asia, established in 2017-18 by the Bangalore Jesuit Education Society (BJES). Affiliated with Karnataka State Law University and approved by the BCI, it offers 5-year BA LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB, and 3-year LLB programs, focusing on holistic, ethical, and socially responsible legal education.

About the Competition

The SJCL Moot Court Competition is a national-level moot court event that assesses participants on legal research, written submissions, and oral advocacy through simulated court proceedings.

The moot proposition raises contemporary legal issues concerning the balance between environmental protection and developmental interests. It requires participants to analyse the interpretation of statutory provisions and judicial precedents relating to sustainable development, regulatory compliance, and competing public interests through structured legal arguments.

Eligibility and Team Composition

  • The competition is open to students enrolled in LL.B. programmes (3-year or 5-year courses).
  • Each participating team shall consist of members as specified in the official brochure.

Competition Format

  • Participating teams are required to submit Memoranda (Written Submissions).
  • Based on the memorial scores, the top 24 teams shall qualify for the Oral Rounds.
  • The Oral Rounds will be conducted on campus at St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bengaluru.
