Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), accredited “A++” Grade by NAAC and ranked among the world’s top 1000 institutions, and 93 in the NIRF rankings 2025, is committed to facilitating and promoting studies, research and development aim of facilitating and promoting studies, research and development work in emerging areas of higher education with a special focus on work in emerging areas of higher education with a special focus on professional education.

Established in 2001, University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS), ranked 22 in the NIRF rankings 2025 envisages advancement of institutional expertise in the area of legal research and education by augmenting academic and professional excellence, developing critical and relentless engagement with legal theory and practice, synergizing law, legal research, legal education and action to further the quest for justice. USLLS became the first law school established by the State Government of Delhi.

About the Journal

This conference aims to explore the intersections of customary law with modern legal frameworks, focusing on how traditional practices can be harmonized with contemporary legal standards without losing their essence. The idea is to explore how customary laws adapt or resist to the new realities with the transience of social norms, economic transformations and influence of globalization.

Eligibility

The conference is designed to engage a diverse group of stakeholders, including but not limited to:

Open to students, researchers, academicians, and practitioners across multidisciplinary fields with an interest in exploring and understanding customary law.

The conference welcomes research papers related to, but not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  • Customary Practices and cultural expressions
  • Customary Law and Customary Rights
  • Intersection of Customary Law and Formal Legal Systems
  • Environmental Issues and the Question of Social justice
  • Gender and legal systems
  • Customary Law in Modern Legal Systems: Challenges and Policy Recommendations
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Legal frameworks supporting indigenous entrepreneurship, sustainable economic initiatives, and customary practices in health and well-being.
    • Exploring the intersection of customary practices with modern public health systems and wellness frameworks.

Formatting Guidelines

Authors whose abstracts are accepted are invited to submit a full paper adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Word Limit: The paper should not be less than 6000 words.
  • Format Requirements:
  • Font: Times New Roman, Size: 12pt, Alignment: Justified and, Line spacing: 1.5
  • Citation Style: The paper should follow the ILI rules of footnoting.
  • Font: Times New Roman, Size: 10pt, Alignment: Justified and, Line spacing: 1.
  • Structure of the Paper
    • Title
    • Author Name(s) and Affiliation(s)
    • Abstract (300 words)
    • Keywords (4–6)
    • Introduction
    • Main Body (with appropriate headings/subheadings)
    • Conclusion

References / Bibliography

  • Only original and unpublished work must be submitted. The submitted work must be not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Author(s) must take particular care that their work does not infringe on the rights of third parties.
  • Plagiarism should not exceed 10% and the use of AI is strictly prohibited.
  • Decision of the Editorial Board on all matters shall be final.
  • Only the authors of selected abstracts will be required to make the payment of registration fees.

Submission Guidelines

Abstract Submission

  • Each applicant must submit an abstract of 300 words with 4 keywords providing a clear overview of their proposed paper. It must include research methodology and main objective of the paper and conclusion.
  • Abstracts should be submitted by 30/11/2025 via email to usllsconference.2026@gmail.com.
  • Notified abstracts will be informed within 10 days of last date of submission.
