About the Organization
The Law, Humanities and Social Sciences (LHSS) Collective at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, is an academic initiative dedicated to bridging the gap between law and allied disciplines such as history, sociology, philosophy, and political science. While much of the scholarship at this intersection has traditionally emerged from the Global North, the LHSS Collective seeks to amplify voices from the Global South and ensure that these perspectives are adequately represented in global discourse. By creating a platform for critical engagement, the Collective fosters interdisciplinary research, dialogue, and collaboration. It aims to reimagine law through the lens of social realities, cultural contexts, and human experiences, encouraging participants to question, critique, and contribute to the evolving understanding of law and society.
Eligibility
The symposium invites abstract submissions from a diverse pool of participants, including students, research scholars, academicians, and legal professionals interested in exploring the intersection of law with humanities and social sciences. Submissions must reflect original thought, rigorous analysis, and alignment with the overarching themes of the symposium. Broad topics include biometrics and surveillance, citizenship, identity politics, exclusion, statelessness, refugee experiences, linguistic parochialism, and the portrayal of migrants in media. Participants are encouraged to engage with issues from the perspective of the Global South, while also drawing comparisons with the Global North wherever relevant. Abstracts must be submitted within the stipulated timeline, ensuring clarity, coherence, and relevance to the symposium’s objectives.
Role
The LHSS International Symposium 2025, scheduled for 11th and 12th October 2025, is a two-day virtual event that seeks to address the pressing crises and challenges confronting law in contemporary times. Building on the success of its earlier editions, the symposium aims to facilitate meaningful exchanges between scholars, practitioners, and students, thereby promoting interdisciplinary dialogue. Selected participants will present their research papers, engage with leading experts in the field, and contribute to shaping the discourse on law and its intersections with social sciences. The symposium not only offers a platform for showcasing academic work but also provides an opportunity for networking, critical discussion, and exposure to global perspectives, particularly from the Global South.
