About the Role

This position is based in Mumbai and focuses on supporting Morningstar’s legal operations in the Americas, EMEA, and India. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel for Corporate Services in North America, with a matrix line to the Senior Legal Counsel in India, the role encompasses project coordination, contract documentation, fact gathering, and research. The position involves operational and administrative responsibilities rather than providing legal advice directly. It is ideal for candidates who enjoy managing legal processes, coordinating with global teams, and ensuring efficient execution of contractual and operational tasks.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be qualified lawyers with at least three years of relevant experience, ideally gained at a reputable law firm or within a corporate legal department. A strong command of contract law and proficiency in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements are essential. The role requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, along with keen attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication abilities are crucial for liaising with global stakeholders. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritizing multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines. Business acumen and a pragmatic approach to legal support will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves providing routine legal support in areas such as HR, procurement, real estate, and corporate services. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, such as service contracts, intercompany agreements, and IT or finance-related documents. The candidate will work closely with the global legal team to ensure timely completion of contractual requirements while maintaining well-organized documentation for the APJ region. Additional duties include conducting due diligence, legal research, and advising on data privacy compliance for the APJ region. The role also requires close collaboration with internal teams—including sales, finance, and compliance—to identify legal risks, propose practical solutions, and support investigations in coordination with external counsel.
