About the Organization
The Office of Maj Kavish Aggarwala offers law students a rare and unique opportunity to gain direct exposure to military law and its procedures through active participation in General Court Martial (GCM) proceedings. The internship is designed to provide practical insights into how court martial trials are conducted, thereby broadening the legal understanding of aspiring lawyers beyond conventional civil and criminal litigation. By working closely with the Defense Counsel during these proceedings, interns will learn the nuances of military justice and its relevance to broader constitutional and criminal law frameworks. This experience is particularly valuable for students who are interested in defense law, criminal litigation, or those who simply want to explore specialized areas of legal practice that are not commonly accessible during regular internships.
Eligibility
This internship program is open to enthusiastic law students who are eager to learn and gain hands-on experience in military justice systems. While the opportunity is not limited to specific academic years, it is most beneficial for students who already possess a foundational understanding of criminal and procedural law. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in litigation, strong research skills, and the ability to draft and analyze case-related documents effectively. Since the internship involves direct interaction with the Defense Counsel during court martial proceedings, students with prior exposure to litigation or courtroom environments will find it particularly advantageous. However, even those without prior experience are encouraged to apply, provided they bring a willingness to learn, dedication, and a genuine curiosity about the functioning of specialized tribunals like the GCM.
Role and Responsibilities
Interns will be entrusted with meaningful responsibilities that go beyond simple observation. Their primary role will involve assisting the Defense Counsel during General Court Martial proceedings in Bangalore. This includes conducting in-depth legal research, preparing case briefs, drafting relevant documents, and helping in the organization of case files. Interns may also be involved in analyzing witness depositions, reviewing evidence, and supporting the overall trial strategy. For students opting for hybrid mode, certain assignments may be research-based and handled remotely, while those attending in-person will have the added advantage of observing courtroom dynamics and learning from live proceedings. This internship is therefore an excellent opportunity to develop advocacy skills, gain practical exposure to specialized litigation, and understand how the principles of justice operate in a military framework.
How to Apply
The internship will run for a duration of 1–2 months, beginning in August 2025, with options available for both offline and hybrid modes.
