Position Overview:

The Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) Paralegal will assist lawyers in handling matters relating to individuals who lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves. The role involves supporting case preparation, client interaction, legal drafting, and administrative responsibilities in sensitive and complex welfare cases.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the Supervisor or Department Director.
  • Assisting with casework on health and welfare Court of Protection matters, including deprivation of liberty challenges.
  • Attending client meetings, taking instructions, and assisting with case preparation.
  • Managing correspondence and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensuring accurate time costing procedures.
  • Implementing recommendations following monthly file reviews.
  • Ensuring compliance with file management procedures.
  • Handling new client enquiries.
  • Assisting with applications for public funding.
  • Supporting business development activities to generate new work.

Eligibility:

  • Law degree with a strong academic background.
  • Experience working as a Court of Protection Paralegal or Legal Advisor.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in publicly funded Court of Protection matters.
  • Clear understanding of Court of Protection procedures and legal framework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while recognising when guidance is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.
  • Strong teamwork and professional attitude with good business awareness.
