About the Organiser
The Mock Trial Competition is organised as part of the MABIJS tournament, which integrates advocacy-based competitions aimed at developing practical legal skills among law students. The event emphasises experiential learning and aims to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and real courtroom practice through simulated trial proceedings.
About the Competition
The Mock Trial Competition adopts an innovative format designed to simulate real courtroom proceedings. It is based on the widely accepted view that trial court experience is essential for shaping a well-rounded legal professional.
Through the competition, participants engage in simulated trials that involve opening statements, examination of witnesses, presentation of evidence, and closing arguments. The format also incorporates elements of structured argumentation and analytical reasoning, helping students develop practical advocacy and litigation skills.
Objective:
To provide students with hands-on exposure to trial advocacy, enabling them to apply legal principles in a simulated courtroom environment and develop skills such as legal reasoning, public speaking, procedural understanding, and teamwork.
Participants must:
- Participate in simulated trial proceedings including opening statements, witness examination, and closing arguments
- Work collaboratively within their teams to present arguments and evidence
- Demonstrate analytical thinking, advocacy skills, and understanding of legal procedures
- Engage in role-playing activities that simulate real litigation scenarios
