About the Opportunity

The Moot Court Competition explores the relationship between new criminal laws and constitutional principles. It aims to analyze whether these laws infringe upon constitutional protections or strengthen the rule of law in a constitutional democracy. Participants in this competition are encouraged to have a thoughtful conversation regarding striking a balance between the protection of fundamental constitutional rights and criminal justice.

The conflict between protecting the rights of accused and victims and ensuring due process in criminal cases lies at the core of the debate. It also examines the role of the judiciary in interpreting criminal laws, particularly in cases based on circumstantial evidence. The competition aims to explore whether courts should actively safeguard constitutional protections or defer to legislative intent while interpreting new laws. The competition encourages reflection on how legal system can evolve without compromising the fundamental principles of justice and human rights.

In the end, the competition gives participants a stimulating environment in which to discuss the moral, legal, and constitutional ramifications of changes to the penal code. It provides a chance to consider how legal frameworks can change without sacrificing the fundamental values of justice and human rights that keep democratic societies strong.
