About the Opportunity
New Relic is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with solid experience in managing commercial contracts and dispute resolution, particularly within the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry. This role is ideal for a motivated legal professional looking to make an immediate impact, collaborate with global teams, and help drive scalable legal processes.
What You’ll Be Doing

Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS and commercial contracts supporting global sales and procurement

Advise and support sales teams on deal structuring, negotiation strategies, and dispute resolution

Collaborate with the finance team to manage disputes, collections, and streamline related processes
-
Handle complex settlement agreements and maintain a caseload of contractual matters
-
Serve as the primary legal contact for all new and updated agreements including MSAs, DPAs, and amendments
-
Partner with contract managers to facilitate execution and serve as escalation point on legal matters
-
Coordinate with privacy counsel on data protection issues, especially within India and global regulatory frameworks

Provide strategic legal guidance to various business units balancing risk with company objectives

Stay informed about New Relic’s product-led SaaS model and evolving legal standards

Advise the marketing team on commercial aspects of campaigns and vendor agreements

Improve and maintain contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and legal workflows
-
Support broader company initiatives like product launches, internal training, and compliance projects
Required Qualifications
-
5–7 years of experience negotiating commercial contracts, ideally in the SaaS or tech industry
-
Strong knowledge of contract law, technology law, and revenue recognition principles
-
Proven ability to navigate privacy, security, and data protection within a commercial contract context

Experience handling disputes and collections linked to contract execution

Capable of managing multiple, time-sensitive deliverables independently

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels

Active bar license in good standing in your jurisdiction

Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in legal drafting and analysis

Team player with a proactive, hands-on approach
Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of legal experience

4+ years of in-house counsel experience

Experience negotiating reseller or partner agreements

Background advising marketing teams on advertising and media agreements

Practice experience in U.S., U.K., Singapore, or Australia (dual qualification preferred)

Familiarity with software development or product lifecycle management

CIPP/E certification or privacy law experience, especially related to Indian regulations
