Your Opportunity

New Relic is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its collaborative legal team. This role is ideal for a lawyer with a strong background in negotiating commercial transactions and handling disputes, particularly in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry. The position offers an opportunity to make an immediate impact by supporting sales teams, structuring contracts, managing settlements, and advising on disputes and collections. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams worldwide, helping to build scalable legal processes while balancing business goals with risk mitigation. This role values strong communication, problem-solving, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Legal Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of SaaS agreements and commercial contracts to support New Relic’s go-to-market initiatives. The role involves advising sales teams on deal structures and managing contract disputes, as well as working with the finance team to streamline dispute resolution and collections processes. The counsel will also handle settlement negotiations, act as a central point of contact for master agreements, and collaborate with privacy legal teams on regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role includes enabling continuous process improvement by refining templates, playbooks, and operational frameworks to support global business growth.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have 5–7 years of experience in negotiating commercial contracts, with strong expertise in technology and contract law, particularly in SaaS licensing and revenue recognition principles. Proficiency in addressing legal issues around privacy, data protection, and security is essential. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, able to prioritize multiple deliverables, and capable of working independently while meeting deadlines. Strong interpersonal and drafting skills are critical, along with the ability to build trusted relationships across various teams. An active bar license in good standing is required for this position, along with a strategic, solutions-oriented approach to legal counsel.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Additional advantages include 10+ years of overall professional experience, with at least four years of in-house legal work. Practical exposure to SaaS partner agreements, marketing contract reviews, and global privacy law compliance (including Indian privacy regulations) is highly desirable. Experience working in jurisdictions such as the U.S., U.K., Singapore, or Australia, and holding certifications like CIPP/E, would be beneficial. Familiarity with software development processes or product management adds further value. New Relic seeks individuals who are not only qualified but also aligned with its mission, values, and commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

The company prioritizes diversity and inclusion, encouraging individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences to apply. All candidates must pass identity and employment eligibility verification, and a criminal background check is required due to the nature of the work. Applications are evaluated solely based on qualifications, ensuring a fair and unbiased selection process.
