Position Overview:

The firm is seeking an experienced Patent Paralegal to join its multi-disciplinary IP team. The role involves supporting fee earners across a wide range of intellectual property matters, both contentious and non-contentious. This position offers significant autonomy and exposure to intellectually engaging work beyond routine administrative tasks, making it ideal for candidates aiming to expand their expertise in IP law.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support across patents, trade marks, designs, and assignments
  • Communicate directly with clients and foreign associates
  • Assist in prosecution of IP rights, including non-technical stages of applications
  • Coordinate international filings (e.g., PCT national phase entries, international trade mark programmes)
  • Maintain and update IP records using IP management systems
  • Prepare and review client portfolio reports
  • Manage renewals and liaise with external agents and service providers
  • Conduct IP searches, monitoring, and analysis
  • Assist with portfolio transfers and onboarding new client matters
  • Prepare cost estimates, forecasts, and support billing processes
  • Draft and file assignments; manage name and address changes
  • Coordinate execution formalities (signatures, notarisation, legalisation)
  • Support due diligence and legal research tasks
  • Contribute to internal projects and process improvements
  • Mentor and guide junior team members where required

Eligibility:

  • Prior experience as an IP Paralegal in a law firm or specialist IP practice
  • Exposure to patents, trade marks, designs, or assignments
  • Strong understanding of IP processes, especially multi-jurisdictional work
  • Experience coordinating international filings and dealing with foreign agents
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with client-handling experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative approach
  • Familiarity with IP management systems (e.g., Inprotech) is an advantage
